Barack Obama Campaign Team Used Ground Breaking Strategy

November 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The little known staff that worked for Barack Obama raised more money for a Presidential candidate than at anytime in history. They were prolific fund raisers, recruited millions of people to vote for Obama  and donated their money to him.  And yes, they ignored that Obama happened to be black. The campaign began twenty-two months ago in Illinois. Barack Obama knew early own just what he wanted; to be President of the United States.

Obama had a vision for his campaign. He wanted his campaign to be grassroots and he wanted to invigorate the populace.  Barack Obama found a way to motivate himself to be President because  he believed in what he could do. The Obama campaign believed that he could be a strong enough candidate that he would attract all races.  Race was not a factor in the his decision to run.

Despite this there were challenges and trouble throughout the campaign. The Jeremiah Wright U-Tube videos were not vetted. Wright was all over television and Hillary Clinton use of Reverend Wright to slander Obama threatened to undermine his entire campaign during the Democratic Primaries.  Reverend Wright and Obama’s relationship with him was a key challenge that took Obama to the brink of political defeat.   Obama decided to make a speech about race to blunt the impact of the Reverend Wright association. He said if the people don’t accept it then I will not be President of the United States. Obama was willing to let the chips fall where they may. His speech was the turning point of his campaign.

The enormity of Obama’s Grass roots field operation begin to overwhelm his opposition. Obama did not write off any state. They went everywhere to lay out the Obama message. The staff picked out 18 states , Indiana and North Carolina, were among the targets. Obama and his staff all believed they could win. With strong volunteers they believed they could do it. In North Carolina they registered 500,000 new voters. They used internet sites like Facebook and Twitters to engage young voters.

The legacy of the campaign was neighborhood team captains. Obama’s motto is no drama. Once you make a decision you stick with it. David Axelrod, Senior Adviser, Press secretary Robert Gibbs, will follow Obama to the White House.  Because of these strategies Barack Obama is the forty-fourth President of the United States of America.
